Cooperative Learning
1. Positive Interdependence
Students will learn about homeless youth and homeless shelters and as a group design their own homeless shelter.
2. Individual and Group Accountability
Students will be graded on individual participation and how well they work with others. Students are expected to be active in the decision making process.
3. Group Processing
Students will be provided with a rubric from the beginning. During the process two students can be working simultaneously on the design of the homeless shelter. The two other group members will be able to use the rubric to provide feedback to their group members.
4. Social Skills
Students must communicate with their team members to make sure that they are meeting the design instructions and are under budget. The builders can also communicate if the design is not working or if it needs to be modified.
5. Face-to-Face Interaction
Students will work face to face during the budget and design planning. Students will also be able to work next to each other during the building process.
6. Specific Task
Each individual student has a specific task during the vocabulary activity. For this activity students will be required to complete a graphic organizer and share with 5 other students.
